Embrace the Teachings of Shri Krishna in Daily Life: Padma Shri Sadguru Brahmeshanandacharya Swamiji
The annual Gopalkala festival organized by the Param Pujya Padmanabh Shishya Sampradaya was celebrated with great devotion, enthusiasm, and joy at Shri Sushen Datta Math, Haturli.
Devotees participated in the celebrations with deep faith and zeal. The morning session began with the sacred Padapooja performed by the host, Shri Gurudas Pednekar. Following this, the program commenced with prayers after adorning Pujya Swamiji with Krishna Alankar (sacred attire and ornaments). Devotional songs (bhajans), chanting of the divine name (Naamsmaran), and a magnificent presentation of ‘Kala’ by the disciples of Sant Samaj Gulduve immersed the entire premises in deep devotion to Lord Krishna. The festival provided a beautiful confluence of traditional faith, culture, and spirituality.
In his address, Pujya Swamiji stated: “Since childhood, Lord Krishna preferred living in close communion with nature. We, too, should choose to stay connected with nature. While pursuing our jobs, professions, and businesses, spending time in nature, living in harmony with it, relishing its beauty, and constantly reminding ourselves that ‘I am an integral part of nature’ is what Lord Krishna truly intends for us. All the divine pastimes (leelas) He performed throughout His life were meant to guide us. He nurtured and protected Mother Cow (Gomata). Every one of us must care for and protect cows. Those who chant ‘Bhagwan Gopal Krishna Ki Jai’ must never regard the cow merely as an animal. She must be revered as a mother. If society worships and serves her with the respect due to a mother, everyone will receive her divine blessings. All followers of Shri Krishna must nurture and protect Gomata. Our Goa is the sacred land of cows—it is Gopakapattanam, the land inhabited by cows; it is Goapuri, the city where cows reside. As we live in this land of Govinda, it is our collective duty to recognize that Devaki-Nandan (Lord Krishna) is the supreme teacher of the universe. We must learn the timeless lessons depicted throughout His life. The cow holds a special significance for Goa, and therefore, we should all endeavor to serve, worship, and nurture cows. If keeping a cow at home is not possible individually, we should care for them collectively at the community level to earn spiritual merit. We must also instill in our children the value of revering the cow as a mother. Let us resolve on this festival of Janmashtami to assimilate Lord Krishna’s divine teachings into our lives and teach our children to follow in His footsteps.”
A special highlight of the celebration was the enthusiastic participation of the youth. Children dressed as little Radha and Krishna captivated the hearts of the audience. Their innocent smiles and energetic involvement presented a heartwarming sight of Indian culture and heritage being handed down to the next generation. The Gopalkala celebration proved to be an unforgettable spiritual and cultural festival for all attendees.
