Mass Upanayan Sanskar Ceremony Organized by Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth in Belgavi Karnataka

Under the divine blessings of Padmashri Sadguru Brahmeshanand Acharya Swamiji, Peethadhishwar of Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth, a mass ‘Upanayan Sanskar’ (Thread Ceremony) was celebrated with great enthusiasm on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Uchgaon, Belgaum. The event was jointly organized by Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth (Shree Kshetra Tapobhoomi, Goa) and the Swami Brahmanand Vedic Gurukul and Research Institute.

Highlights of the Ceremony: A total of 14 children underwent the Upanayan Sanskar. The ceremony was completed through several sacred rituals, including:
- Chaulkarm (Tonsure)
- Sacred Bath & Purification
- Yagnopavit (Investing the Sacred Thread)
- Gayatri Mantra Initiation
- Bhikshatan (Ritual Begging) and Matrubhojan (Dining with the Mother)
The Significance of Upanayan: In Sanatan Dharma, Upanayan is considered one of the most vital of the sixteen Sanskaras. The word literally means “leading towards the path of knowledge.” This ritual marks the beginning of a child’s ‘second birth’ (Dvijatva). While the worship of the Gayatri Mantra enhances intellectual depth, practices like Sandhyavandan, chanting, and penance instill self-restraint and righteous conduct. Even in today’s technology-driven era, it is essential to preserve these values to raise a duty-bound and cultured generation.

- Shri Ramchandraji Naik (Vice President, Sant Samaj Sanghatana): “This is the fifth ‘Mass Divine Upanayan Sanskar’ organized by the Peeth in the Belgaum district. Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth is always at the forefront of serving God, the Nation, and Religion while protecting Hindu cultural values under the special guidance of Sadguru Brahmeshanand Acharya Swamiji.”
- Shri Dhananjay Jadhav (Former BJP Rural President, Belgaum): “Witnessing this divine ceremony at the Malekarni Devi premises felt like seeing the rishis performing Yagnas in the eras of Ramayana and Mahabharata. Every Hindu brother should ensure their children undergo such cultural values.”

Dignitaries in Attendance: The event was graced by several prominent personalities, including Shri Dhananjay Jadhav, Dr. Pravin Desai, Shri L. D. Chougule (Journalist, Sakal Belgaum), Shri Bharat Babu Karannavar (Entrepreneur), and Shri Umashankar Desai. Officials from the Sant Samaj Sanghatana, including President Shri Sujan Naik, Secretary Raghuveer Shirodkar, and members from various local chapters (Khanapur, Kupatgiri, Ramgarwadi-Idalhond), were also present along with a large number of devotees.
The program was compered by Dr. Gauresh Bhalkekar. The dignitaries concluded the event by blessing the young initiates (Batus) and wishing them a bright future.
